The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back another old friend, veteran running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs have signed Clyde Edwards-Helaire following his release from the New Orleans Saints. The 2020 first-round pick spent his first four years with the AFC West club, winning back-to-back Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023.
Edwards-Helaire lost his starting RB job to Isiah Pacheco in the 2022 season, making just nine starts over his last two seasons in KC. They brought him back on a one-year deal in the 2024 offseason, but he never played a game for the Super Bowl champions and was released mid-season.
The 26-year-old appeared in two games for the Saints, recording 46 rushing yards and three receptions for 24 yards. He was initially brought back on a one-year deal worth $1.117 million, per Spotrac, before getting released on Tuesday.
Brett Veach’s Busy Week Continues With Clyde Edwards-Helaire Signing
It’s been a busy week for Chiefs general manager Brett Veach, who made a notable trade a week ago by sending 2022 second-round pick and wideout Skyy Moore to the San Francisco 49ers.
Then on Sunday, the Chiefs brought back another old friend in defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi via trade with the New York Jets. Call it a Super Bowl 57 and 58 reunion if you want, as Nnadi won three Super Bowl rings in his first stint with the Chiefs.
Speaking of players who won back-to-back rings with Patrick Mahomes and company, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with the San Francisco 49ers today after being let go by the Seattle Seahawks.
The revolving door of Chief player-related transactions continued with Clyde Edwards-Helaire returning to KC. He had his best season as a rookie in 2020, recording 803 rushing yards, four touchdowns and 1,100 yards from scrimmage.
